Thanksgiving Thanksgiving Day is a day for people in the US to give thanks for what they have and it takes place on the 4 th  Thursday in November. The celebration dates back to the mid 18 th  century, although the first Thanksgiving is said to have taken place in October 1621, when the Pilgrims played host to around 90 Native Americans.
